How can you afford to travel? Are you rich?

Haha, No we are not rich and we work online to support ourselves. We have both had full time jobs which we quit but not before we had stared our online business and it was making us an income we could live off. We already had experience with working online for many years but it still took about a year to get our business profitable enough to support us. We also are always looking to take advantages of cheap flights, specials on accommodation and any other bargains we can find.

How are you living the Dream?

This is our dream, it might not be everyone else’s. And the answer is because we took advantage of opportunities that came our way. We worked very hard for many years, oftentimes in jobs we didn’t like, for bosses we couldn’t stand and had a dream of one day being self sufficient enough to do what we really wanted to do. We also worked our buts of to get our business off the ground. After a full day at work we came home had some dinner and got on the computer and worked. On the weekends instead of watching football or fooling around we worked. So while all our friends were wasting their time watching endless hours of TV, we were working on our future. Now they tell us we are lucky! Pheh!

Luck is the residue of design.

Luck is when preparedness meets opportunity.

Are you ever going to stop? Where and when do you plan on settling down?

We don’t know! all we can tell you is that we are loving what we are doing and not ready to stop. Will we go back to Australia and settle down? We don’t know. Maybe, maybe we’ll find somewhere else that we love and decide to settle down. We just don’t know, but that is the fun of living this way. It keeps things exciting. Let the Adventures continue.

Do you make a living from your blog?

Yes we make a small amount of money from advertising and sponsored content but that’s not the purpose of this blog. We get complimentary accommodation and travel but we also pay our way for most of our trips. We are self sufficient from our own business. Plus its Nobody’s business! We don’t go asking others how much money they have saved up to be able to afford their holidays?

How Can I get started to travel long-term?

Decide what you want out of your travel. Have your reason ‘why’ first, then you can decide if you can finance your travel style. Travel costs money! not as much as most people think but you still need cash. Things go wrong, stuff happens, things always cost more that you expect so you need money to cover you for these events. Anyone who says they travel without money are lying!

Then you need to look at your skills, expertise and figure out how you can monetize it. We always recommend you do this before you leave home, have yourself set up, have a plan. Its very hard to set up a skype interview with a potential employer when you are on a deserted beach in Thailand with no wifi access. Be smart and plan ahead, have an emergency exit. Always have enough money to get home.

How do you find cheap flights?

We use a variety of sites that help us to find the best deals and we spend a considerable amount of time researching them. Some of these are Kayak, Skyscanner, Ebookers, Priceline, Farecompare to mention a few. Just Google you destination and start researching. There’s no magic trick I’m afraid.

How do you prefer to travel?

We are not backpacking, hostel travelers. We are budget conscious comfortable travelers. We don’t do carry on only on longer trips (its OK for a weekend away), we don’t do shared bathrooms and we don’t do dirty sleeping conditions. We have our standards. We love luxury but are not adverse to budget accommodations as long as it’s clean and has a hot shower. We love experiences that are unique and interesting and we can learn something about the place we are at or is unique to the area. We love to immerse ourselves in the culture of the place and meeting local people.
